In North India, today people perform puja for Goddess Lakshmi, the Goddess of wealth. The puja is done on the new moon day followed by Deepavalli. Pujas are done to the Goddess Lakshmi seeking her blessings and wealth in life. Lamps are lit at the entrance in the evening to welcome the Goddess. On this day, new account books are opened for a new start of business.

I did this freehand rangoli in white. I started with the floral pattern and extended with swirls and minarets. The base design with 8 petals is a common design and added some swirls. I drew the centre design on my doorstep, but couldn’t extend beyond the second layer as I needed to wrap up due to time constraint. But wanted to try this and I had time to execute and started with the same base design. I extended the next layer with minarets and triangles on the next.. And added some tear drop shapes and needed to complete with an outline as I can’t draw beyond 2’6″. That’s my territory 😀

I drew this rangoli with nylon podi. I wanted to add colours to this kolam.. But I felt the kolam looked fine without any addition of colours. Hope everyone agrees on it 🙂
